We enjoy many parts of Melou, but sampling remains one of our favourites. The preperation, making the patterns, cutting the cloth and stitching.
Seeing everything come together is really exciting.
Sometimes the fabric tells us what to do. Thick and heavy, this one called for a short, boxy cut. Made from 100% merino wool, the fabric comes from Albano Morgado, a textile mill in central Portugal, near Coimbra.
Over the last two days, we set up our workshop at Casa Explora to work on the first sample of a new wool overshirt, with enough space to breathe.
A few details still need resolving, including how to finish the collar, but we’re happy with the result. One more round of sampling in another colour. It’s taking shape. Updates will follow.
We took the opportunity to wear our new boilersuit. Made from thick 100% cotton canvas at 305 g/m², its loose fit gives us freedom to move and enough room for warm layers on colder days.
