We love working with people whose life is their craft. Bazile — shaping under the name Zeuglodon in Normandy — is one of those rare ones.
After more than a year of working together, we finally met Bazile Pinel in person during a shaping session at the Gliding Barnacles Festival in Portugal.
One pair of hands, boards built start to finish, asymmetry on purpose, and a seeker’s mindset.
We’ve been catching up on a lot of things, but the main one was to shape a custom Juicy Walls board to start the winter right.
Bazile got into surfing through his father and was already competing by 14. With time he began putting his experience into his own shapes—longboards, mid-lengths, twin fins—but in recent years his focus has shifted toward asymmetrical boards.
As he says:“I’ve been experimenting with asymmetrical surfboards for a couple of years now and I’m in love with my last one. It’s a 5’10 with an asym flex-tail. It gets more speed but still has the control of a regular shortboard.”
The picture that I have sent in my review is actually my package. There isn’t. There is nothing due to the company hasn’t yet delivered my order.
