Last November, we traveled to Normandy to meet our friend Bazile for an upcoming project we’ll be presenting soon.
Bazile Pinel, owner of Zeuglodon Surfboards, born in Normandy in Les Pieux, developed a strong bond with the ocean from a young age. To really understand it, he studied oceanography at university.
Today, we want to share one of his stories with you. It is the story of a dreamer and an unknown wave.
It taught us to believe in ourselves, be patient, work hard, and not to give up on our dreams until we achieve them. Baziles values align with what we believe in.
Life took him to India in 2015. While he was doing an internship at the NIO ( National Institute of Oceanography) in Mumbai, he had access to weather and swell data. He studied the coastline, the weather, and the swell charts, and found what he was looking for:
A long right-hand point break.
He waited for the right conditions, shaped himself a 4'11 Fish and went on a long bus ride through India. On his first try after 20 hours of travel, he arrived — just to find it flat.
It took Bazile several attempts over a few years to study the wave, talking to the local fisherman to understand about the right tide, wind and swell direction and energy needed for the wave to work.
Finally, one day, he found it working. His wife, Bharati, was there to film it. And that’s how these moments were captured.
